EDUCATION:
Miss Standryk received her Bachelor of Arts
(B.A.) from Carleton University in June 1993. Her studies focused on Law, Sociology, and Anthropology.
She then proceeded to law school at the University of Western Ontario, where she received her Bachelor of Laws
(LL.B.) in June, 1996.
EXPERIENCE:
Miss Standryk was called to the Ontario Bar in 1998.
She
proceeded to become a Legal Consultant for the Ministry of the Attorney General at the Crown Law Office in Toronto, before becoming an Associate Lawyer of Lancaster, Mix & Welch (now Lancaster, Brooks & Welch).
Miss Standryk began her practice at LBW in family, civil, and labour and
employment law. Currently, she specializes in labour and employment
law and has experience in advising management in matters of human rights,
contract negotiation, wrongful dismissal, labour relations, and workplace
privacy and risk management issues.
In the past, Leanne has had the opportunity to participate in contract negotiations for a few renowned Canadian athletes and is pursuing an interest in contract negotiations of this nature.
She has been consulted on matters regarding OMHA player contract release disputes
and regularly provides advice to amateur sport associations with respect
to employment and risk management issues.
Miss Standryk has
received a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution training through
Osgoode Hall Law School, York University and continues to participate in
on going continuing legal education frequently as a presenter.
Miss Standryk has been
an active volunteer with several communities and organizations and is
involved in numerous competitive sports, both as an athlete and a coach.
She was a member of a local panel instrumental in the organization of the
local “Courts in the Classroom” initiative, developed in an attempt to
educate the youth of our community about the justice system. She
continues her efforts to educate the youth of the community through her
involvement in the Brock University Sports Management, sports law
mentoring program.
Miss Standryk acts as a Community
Champion for the
True Sport Movement
in the Niagara Region.
True Sport
is a National Movement of communities and groups across Canada working to
ensure a positive, meaningful, and enriching experience for all who
participate in sport. Miss Standryk provides leadership to the
Movement by actively educating and engaging surrounding
municipalities and local groups into the Movement.
Most recently, Miss Standryk teaches the introduction to sport law course in the Department of Sport Management at Brock University.
