EDUCATION:

Miss Godwin attended Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in St. Catharines, and graduated from Brock University with a B.A. (with Distinction) in English in 1972. She obtained an LL.B. from Queen’s University and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1978.

EXPERIENCE:

Miss Godwin articled in Ottawa and then practiced law in Hamilton from 1978 until 2001. She has recently returned from a three year sabbatical during which time she taught Immersion English, Business and Law to adults in China and Turkey, and obtained a CELTA diploma from Cambridge University.

Miss Godwin’s practice has included family, civil, estate, and commercial litigation, as well as administrative law and construction liens.   She has advanced certification in Mediation and Alternate Dispute Resolution. Over the years, she has frequently appeared in courts in Hamilton, St. Catharines, Welland, Kitchener, Milton, Brampton and Toronto, and has experience before various administrative tribunals including the Ontario Municipal Board and Excise Tax Board.

ASSOCIATIONS:

Miss Godwin is a past President of the Hamilton Lawyers’ Club and former Director and Chairperson of the Hamilton Legal Aid Area Committee. She was a Director of   the Multiple Sclerosis Society, YWCA and Downtown Hamilton Business Improvement Association. She was a founding Director and Board member of the Hamilton Regional Cancer Clinic Foundation.

She is currently a member of the Lincoln County Law Association and the Advocates’ Society of Ontario, as well as the Brock University Alumni Association.
